Memory 028 (Significant Neutral)
GAME: 176; Nimue/Odile bickering game
FORM: miniature goblet & miniature glass vial. Fill the goblet and drink (3/3)
I'm fighting this Focus to the end. We all are. So please-- fight with us.
The team comes to a dead end in a large, dangerous, frustrating maze. Snow gives them inspiring speech -- maybe he will turn into a mindless monsters, but until that happens he's going to live in a way that would make Serah proud. Everyone generally agrees that yes, listening to your own self and your conscience and such and living in a way that makes you, personally, fulfilled is the best they're going to be able to do here. Everyone but Fang.
Fang turns on them and says she'll get strong on her own, she wont let Vanille turn into a Cieth. Fang collapses and Bahamut appears -- Fang tells everyone that the Eidolans appear when you're conflicted, to 'fix a broken a l'cie' and 'put us out of our misery'. Everyone steps up to protect her, Lightning and Snow shielding her from Bahamut's attack. When she asks why they're protecting her, Lightning says they're all going to fight their focus to the end, asks Fang to fight with them, and offers her her hand. After a moment, Fang takes it, stands, and gets ready to fight.
SO
THIS MEMORY
THIS MEMORY RIGHT NOW
um
So anyway, this memory is Lightning's reward for a game where she had a pretty spectacular fight with her team full of woe and bad feels. And the source of the fight was very much an ideological split between 'fuck everyone else, protect the people important to me' and 'damn the rules, let's be good people', essentially.
So. Lightning will take this memory and conclude that if you were to cast this memory with the her teammates, she would be playing the part of Fang. And she will not feel very spectacular about that. I mean, she will never be sorry for wanting to protect the people who are important to her, but it was really clear in the game that her ideas for protecting her team were also hurting them, by making them make choices they weren't happy with. Snow's speech hammers really heavy on how the might actually just die. But that's okay, so long as they're living the lives they want to up until then, best as they can. And it's an idea she was okay with.
So she will come out of that memory (and the game) with... idk a slightly less harsh and demanding approach to that kind of situation, and be more aimable to the idea of "as long as it makes us happy in some way, that's the correct way to do things". More like old Emerald, really. Which honestly I find super interesting -- her first game was also a terrible fight over self sacrifice/not... and not because Lightning isn't a character who could be okay with that kind of action. As shown in this memory she is actually super okay with that kind of action... she just couldn't be, at that point in time and with no memories. And it has taken her this long to be able to work around to being open, but I think it will be really interesting and good for her.
She has definitely reached the point where she is interested in protecting Emerald -- not just in the "I will stand in front of you and take hits" kind of way, but in a "I am sincerely interesting in knowing things about you and therefore knowing how best to help you" sort of way, and this will... hopefully help her figure out how to do that.
Also interesting is that in this memory she is pretty... okay/fond of Snow? And that is wildly different from the rest of her memories. She also is pretty fond of Fang -- previous to now she had really only glimpsed Fang in her memories and was mad at her in Aather. So. Interesting changes all around.
Gain:
+ reasonableness
+ willingness to change opinion
+ teamdere
+ ...memory-team dere?
+ fuck the system we do what we want
Also everyone praise me this is the first memory write up I have done all realm. TWO WEEKS FROM THE END AW YEAH.
